Katryn Evinson

Graduate Resident Fellow

Born to Bostonian parents in Barcelona, Spain (1985), Katryn Evinson grew up in a Catalan environment, speaking English, Spanish and Catalan. After working in the International Education sector both as an administrator and as a faculty member, Katryn pursued her MA in Aesthetics and Contemporary Art Theory (2013) because she knew that she wanted to engage in academic research. When she got accepted into the Romance Studies department to complete her PhD program at Cornell her life changed radically: she packed her bags and started a new life in the United States where she reminds herself everyday how privileged she is to be able to do what she most likes. Katryn really appreciates how this career will allow her to deal not only with theoretical problems, but also to be in contact with the core piece of educational projects: the students. One of Katryn’s important values in life is also social and political commitment. She was at the board of directors at a Woman’s Center in Barcelona and she believes that making time for service is crucial to become an active citizen in our society. Aside from her academic endeavors, Katryn loves to socialize, go to art exhibitions and any stimulating cultural event available, although she also needs her yoga and physical activity. Of course, as any proper Spaniard, she really values delicious cuisine and has great times when sitting at a table after lunch or dinner just chatting away as a way to enjoy life’s most precious pleasures.
