J. Michael Kinsey
Graduate Resident Fellow
J. Michael Kinsey is a Georgia native, by way of New York City, and is a 3rd year doctoral student in the Department of Performing and Media Arts. His research interrogates the intersection of race and sexuality in African American Performance. Through this engagement with scholarship and performance his focus is Queer Theory, Feminism, African American Theatre, Critical Race Studies, Solo Performance, and Directing. He is a member of the Black Graduate & Professional Student Association as well as the Association of Graduates In Theatre. He has presented research and performance at the Black Theatre Network, Association of Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), the Hemispheric Institute (Santiago, Chile) and the Interdisciplinary Theatre & Performance Studies program at Northwestern University. He trained at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where he received his BFA in Musical Theatre and he’s a proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association.
