Graduate Resident Fellow
Maddie is a PhD student in English Literature, studying animals in Victorian novels. Her dissertation explores the category of the human and its (many) limitations in nineteenth-century British fiction. She loves teaching and has taught courses on gardens, the environment in literature, and mystery fiction. Having earned her liberal arts degree from Carleton College, she considers herself a student of all things quirky and weird. Between college and grad school, she taught English classes in a high school in France, where the students schooled her in American tv shows.
In her spare time, Maddie enjoys rock climbing, all types of dance, and ice cream tasting. She also loves thinking about writing and will talk about it for hours, so long as she doesn’t have to do it. She is looking forward to meeting the Becker community!
