Hello, my name is Lavannya Pulluveetil Barrera and I am the returning SA of Cook Main! I'm so happy to be back as a third year resident and a second year staff member. Alice Cook House has been such a warm and welcoming home, central to my undergrad experience for the last two years, that I just had to return and attempt to create a similar environment for incoming residents. I really hope to connect with each and every one of you at some point during the year. But, before we do that, I thought I would tell you a bit about myself to ease the process.
I am a senior studying Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (ESS) and International Agriculture and Rural Development (IARD) in CALS. I am originally from New York City but have lived in central New Jersey for the past few years. Outside of the classroom, some of my interests include watching sports especially baseball and basketball, discovering and listening to new music, and exploring issues of social justice. In fact, this year I will be hosting a social justice series for Cook where I hope to engage residents in exploring issues that affect people at all scales; from Cornell to abroad.
On campus, I am involved in a Latinx-interest organization known as M.E.Ch.A. which hosts social, cultural, and political events throughout the year as well as Cornell University Program Board, a group responsible for bringing speakers and comedians to campus. I am also a Meinig Scholar and Public Service Scholar so if you are interested in either program, feel free to ask me questions at House Dinner every Wednesday, or whenever you see me around the House and campus. Don't be a stranger! It's going to be a great year.
