Alex Vladimirsky was born in Odessa (USSR) and his educational journey lead him form Moscow State University (1990) through UC San Diego (1991-93) to UC Berkeley (B.A. in 1995; Ph.D. in 2001). He came to Cornell in 2001 and has been enjoying the local intellectual and social environment ever since then. His research involves elements of Mathematics, Operations Research and Computer Science. He is a member of four graduate fields and an organizer of the annual Cornell Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CMCM) -- a competition attracting undergraduate participants from across the university. His other major interests include literature, movies (both old & new), Argentine Tango, and stimulating conversations with people whose opinions are different from his own.
