Cook Community Engagement

Bridging Self, Community, and World

Wednesdays are a special night in Cook House during the academic year, a time for our community to come together. From 5-6 PM, House Professor-Dean Shorna Allred hosts Cook Community Receptions in her apartment, open to all Cook residents, Cook staff, and Cook House Fellows. House Dinner from 6-7 PM is the anchor of our Wednesday night programming. Chef Harold Evans prepares a special menu and dresses up the dining room with linens and flowers. Entertainment is presented by some of Cornell's talented student organizations. House Fellows join lively discussions with residents at their tables. Following dinner, House Professor-Dean Shorna Allred facilitates a one-credit Cook Community Engagement course in her living room. Guest speakers include faculty, senior administrators, Ithaca community leaders, distinguished visitors to campus, and alums. Wednesday nights create accessible and informal opportunities for Cook residents to interact with each other and guests, enriching their intellectual life at Cornell.
